Planning and paying for your funeral in advance
When We Remember...

For those people who are giving thought to a funeral service in advance we have available a very special book entitled "When we remember".

This book provides an honest and sensitive guide to planning a funeral and offers many gentle suggestions of poetry, readings and music.

If you would like to receive a complimentary copy together with the accompanying CD of funeral music, please let us know.

Pre-planned Funerals

Most of us, as we get older, expect to provide the money to meet our funeral expenses. We're not morbid. It's to do with independence and responsibility. Leaving everything in order for our relatives and friends. We don't often talk about it - because there's no need to - but the fact is that funerals cost money, and we want to take care of the cost.

Many people are deciding to make arrangements for their own funeral in advance, which we are very happy to help with.

Arranging and paying for your funeral in advance may especially suit:

- Those with no one capable or willing to make funeral arrangements at the time of their death.
- Those who have definite wishes about their funeral and want to be sure that these wishes are known and incorporated into the funeral.
- Those who simply want to offer some guidelines to their survivors regarding their funeral arrangements.

If you want us to guide you through your own funeral arrangements, please let us know. Remember to leave your instructions in a safe place and tell your family where they are.

We can also offer guaranteed plan options where you can pay in advance at today’s prices thus saving your survivors from the burden of having to find funds when it may prove difficult. All our plan funds are placed in an independent trust fund with HSBC as custodian trustees. A Rosedale Funeral Plan reflects the best elements of nationwide plans but also has significant advantages deriving from our local family tradition. If you have already purchased a pre-payment plan and wish to transfer this to Rosedale Funeral Home, we would be happy to advise you about this.

For more information on Pre-paid Funerals or to request a brochure and price list please email us.

Here are some questions you might want to ask, but please call is if there is anything else you would like to know.

What if the cost of funerals increases?

The cost of a funeral usually increases each year, but once you have purchased a pre-payment plan the funeral specified will be provided for you when it is needed, without any further charge to you or your family (excepting Disbursements i.e. fees etc outside of our control). This is one of the most important benefits and why it has become so popular with our clients in recent years.

How do I know the money will be safe?

All payments are made directly into the Funeral Planning Trust and held by an independent professional custodian trustee. The accounts of the Funeral Planning Trust are monitored annually by independent actuaries and checked by independent auditors. The payment for the funeral can only be withdrawn from Funeral Planning Trust when the service has been provided or if the plan is cancelled.

Do you pay interest?

No. A guaranteed funeral plan is simply a way of paying in advance for the funeral service. As the value of the Funeral Planning Trust increases over the years, so the money available to pay the Funeral Director will increase to compensate for rising costs.

Can I pay by instalments?

Yes, there is a range of options - please ask for details. It usually costs more to pay by instalments because of the extra administration involved, and if you die before completing all of the instalments, the funeral will only be part-paid.

Is there an age limit or health restrictions?

No, you can purchase a plan at any age and in any state of health, but please see the note on instalments above.

What if I die away from home?

We recommend that you take out travel insurance when you go on holiday, especially if you travel abroad, which usually covers bringing you back home if necessary (or we can quote for the extra cost involved).

What if I move home?

If you move home, Funeral Planning Services can transfer your plan to a funeral director in that area. Funeral costs do vary from one area to another and you will be advised of any difference of cost at that stage.

Can I buy a plan for someone else?

Yes, please mention this on your application. We will need the name, address and year of birth of the person to be covered, but we will send all correspondance to you.

What if I change my mind later?

If you change your mind within the first month of receiving your plan documents, you can return them for a full refund - with no questions asked. If you cancel your plan at a later date, your refund will be subject to an administration charge.
