Supporting Cruse Bereavement Care Norwich & Central Norfolk
All profits from sales of Rosedale’s Cooking for One will be donated to Cruse Bereavement Care, whose work in supporting bereaved people in Norfolk and Suffolk is invaluable.
What is Norwich Cruse?
Cruse Bereavement Care Norwich is part of a national charity which supports the bereaved. It is an independent organisation of committed people who care about and understand the needs associated with bereavement. Cruse is often the only place people have to turn to when someone has died.
Cruse Bereavement Care offers sympathetic, compassionate and confidential support by selected, highly trained volunteers. After a death they are there to talk to you and pass on useful information which may be of help. They can offer one to one support to those who still need help further down the line. However long ago the bereavement, we may be able to help.
Norwich Cruse offers:
- One to one support
- A Telephone Enquiry Line to find out about our services and other bereavement support available to people in Norfolk. Messages are checked regularly and they will call you back as soon as they can.
- Advice and helpful leaflets and information.
- Monday Morning Group; a social support/coffee group aimed at older people who have been bereaved in the past. Please ring the Cruse office before going along for a first time.
- Training and outreach work for other individuals/organisations who deal with bereaved people.
What is Cruse One to One Support?
Cruse offers an opportunity to talk about anything that is related to a bereavement. Your volunteer is not there to offer you advice, nor to make judgements about you or what you say. He or she is there to listen and will try to understand your feelings and situation. This can help you to explore different options and help you make decisions and act on them. The service is free to all those who use it, however we can only exist thanks to donations, and would be very grateful for anything you can afford to give towards your sessions.
How do I get in touch?
Phone 01603 219977 and you can speak to someone on the Cruse enquiry line who will take your details. If there is no one there when you call you can leave a message and they will phone you back as soon as possible – they do check messages regularly. Or you can email [email protected].
What do people talk about?
People might talk about how they feel now or about things that happened in the past. Sometimes they are surprised by what they do talk about and how things can make sense in a way they had not expected.
Is it confidential?
Yes. They offer complete confidentiality except under exceptional circumstances. They do not disclose information, nor confirm knowledge of you with anyone without your informed consent except in an emergency.
Do I have to wait?
You have an initial meeting first to discuss your needs. If Cruse does not seem the best place for help, then they offer other suggestions. If you stay with Cruse you will be linked up to your own volunteer who will continue to see you for as long as is appropriate.
They usually have a waiting list, however please be assured they work through it as quickly as possible. They usually offer one to one support for a minimum of three months after bereavement, as they find this is usually of deeper long term benefit.
Where will I be seen?
It may be at their base in central Norwich, in your own home, or sometimes at other venues in Norfolk.
How long does it last?
Each session lasts about one hour. How many sessions you have depends on you and your volunteer. It is usually between one and six. You may agree a certain number and then change this as necessary.
