Local family business Rosedale Funeral Home are celebrating ‘Fairtrade Fortnight’ by opening their doors and inviting the public to see how they can be fair when arranging a funeral for a loved one, at the same time celebrating the twinning of their toilet with one in Uganda. “Fairtrade Fortnight this year is from 25th February to 10th March and it’s the most important time of the year to celebrate Fairtrade achievements, whilst encouraging further commitments from other local businesses to take action for fairer trade” says Liz Hadridge, Funeral Director for Rosedale Funeral Home. “Rosedale have been advocates for fair trade for many years offering Fairtrade refreshments in the funeral home for staff and customers and we have always focused on providing our families with the option to be greener and more sustainable as well as supporting Fairtrade marked products such as our range of pandanus and bamboo coffins. This year we will be opening the doors to our Beccles Funeral Home and inviting people to celebrate with us and meet the team.” In 2018, Rosedale won the Environment and Sustainability award at the EDP Business Awards and The Good Funeral Guide named them ‘Most Eco-Friendly Funeral Provider’ in its National Award ceremony for their work with florists and growers to spearhead a campaign aimed at using compostable materials in floral tributes and reducing plastic and oasis. The award also recognised Rosedale’s ongoing focus on environmental issues, which involves working with families to support the concept of a carbon neutral funeral. Rosedale are also supporting the charity ‘Toilet Twinning’ by twinning each of their funeral home’s toilet with ones in countries such as Uganda and Malawi and whose aim is to flush away poverty one toilet at a time. Staying with the toilet theme, Rosedale have swapped their usual toilet rolls to a sustainable bamboo toilet roll from the company ‘Who Gives a Crap?’ which is on a mission to make all of their products with environmentally friendly materials, and they donate 50% of their profits to help build toilets for those in need across the world. The Fairtrade Trade open morning will be on 1st March from 10 am – 12 noon and all are warmly invited to join the Beccles team for Fairtrade refreshments, including Fairtrade chocolate brownies, lemon drizzle cake and to use our facilities. As an extra incentive, we will give every visitor a free bamboo toilet roll to take home and try – what’s not to like?
