Rosedale Funeral Home are proud to be lending their support to a new Nelson’s Journey initiative by stocking a new bereavement resource in each of their funeral homes in South Norfolk and North Suffolk.
Nelson’s Journey is a Norfolk charity who support children and young people who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life. The ‘Smiles & Tears Box’ was created by a group of young people who volunteer and make up the Nelson’s Journey Youth Panel, the same team who designed and developed an awarding winning smartphone app also called Smiles & Tears’ which has been downloaded all over the world.
The majority of Youth Panel members and young volunteers have been bereaved and all felt that many adults and friends around them didn’t know what to say when their significant person died. They felt passionately that a supportive gift containing helpful information, activities and treats would have been of great comfort to them at a very challenging time and so the Smiles & Tears Box was created.
A member of the Nelson’s Journey Youth Panel said “People don’t always know what to say when someone has died and so we have designed this box of goodies for children and young people to use when they feel they need them. By receiving this gift, they will know that someone cares about them and it might help them feel less lonely too.”
Some of the items in the box include:
Specially created bereavement mindfulness colouring postcards
Soft toy because everyone needs a hug sometimes
Journal for writing or drawing thoughts and feelings
Happy jar to store happy and positive thoughts
Fidget toy for when you just need to be ‘doing something’
Rosedale has always been committed to ensuring that bereaved children are supported in schools and are involved in the funeral arrangements and stocking the bereavement boxes is a natural extension of that care.
Boxes have been created for three different age groups, under 7, 8-12 and 12-17 and are priced at £28 plus £4.99 postage and packing. The Smiles & Tears box is available to order from the Nelson’s Journey online shop or you can pick one up from your nearest Rosedale Funeral Home and save on the postage and packaging.
