Your frequently asked questions about funeral plans

What if the cost of funerals increases?

The cost of an average UK funeral has risen over the years, so it makes sense to make financial provision in advance. Once you have purchased a pre-paid funeral plan, our professional funeral directing services, specified in your plan paperwork, will be provided for you when it is needed, without any further charge to you or your family as long as your requirements don’t change and we carry out your funeral. This is one of the most important benefits and why funeral pre-planning has become so popular with our clients in recent years. The plan can also include a contribution towards third party costs which are outside of our control and cannot be guaranteed. There may be more to pay at the time of the funeral if these costs are not covered by the plan value. Terms and conditions apply.

Is there an age limit or any health restrictions?

Anyone over the age of 18 can take out a plan and in any state of health, but please see the note on instalments below.

Can I change my funeral plan arrangements?

Yes, you can make changes to your plan after you have taken it out. Just let us know what you wish to change. There may be an additional cost if you add new features and services to your plan.

What if I die away from home?

We recommend that you take out travel insurance when you go on holiday, especially if you travel abroad, which usually covers bringing you back home if necessary (or we can quote for the extra cost involved).

What if I move home?

If you move, you should be able to transfer your plan to a funeral director near your new home. However, there may be additional costs depending on local prices. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions for details or speak to a member of the team.

What if I change my mind later?

If you change your mind within the first 30 days of taking out your plan, you will be entitled to a full refund. However if you cancel the plan after 30 days, you’ll receive a refund of the original amount paid, excluding the management fee.

Can I buy a plan for someone else?

Yes, please mention this on your application. We will need the name, address and year of birth of the person to be covered, but we will send all correspondence to you.

Can I pay by instalments?

Yes, there is a range of options – please ask for details. It costs more to pay by instalments over 2, 3, 4 and 5 years and the additional cost is held within the plan and used for the funeral when the time comes. If you die before completing all of the instalments, the money paid in up until that point will be released to us as a contribution towards the funeral.  Additional terms and conditions apply for paying by instalments, please ask us for a copy.

What happens if I pay by instalments and need to cancel future payments?

If you choose to pay by monthly instalments and you wish to stop paying for any reason, you can either cancel the plan and receive a refund of the money you have paid excluding the management fee, or you can leave what you have paid in the plan to be used as a contribution to your funeral when the time comes. And if your plan is needed before you have completed your instalments, the payments you have made will be used as a contribution to your funeral and your wishes will be clearly documented, giving your family peace of mind.
